1951 Gretsch 'Name-Band' Outfit Drum Kit

Size : 14x22, 13x9, 16x16, 6.5x14

Finish : Green Sparkle

The Gretsch Broadkaster is one of the most iconic vintage drum kits and is best known for its highly desirable 3-ply shell construction. The composition of the shell consists of an inner ply of poplar, sandwiched by outer plies of maple. This combination of wood was used to achieve projection, warmth and resonance.

This particular outfit features a 14x22 bass drum, 16x16 and 9x13 toms, and a matching 6.5x14 ‘Floor Show’ snare, which was catalogued as the ‘Name-Band’ outfit during the 50s and 60s. Sometime around the mid to late 1950s, Gretsch changed from a glass-based sparkle wrap to a foil-based sparkle wrap, as the demand for more flashy wraps increased. This kit features a very rare Green Sparkle finish in the early glass-based wrap. This particular green finish option is notorious for fading to a lime color as exposed to certain lighting; however this kit has very mild fading (as according to its previous owner), it remained in a closet since the early 1980s.

The drums are in outstanding condition with original hardware, including double flanged stick chopper style hoops, factory original black painted bass drum hoops with original inlay, original bearing edges, clear maple interiors, which (to varying legibility degrees) sport 1951 date stamps.
