1942 Leedy Commander Snare Drum

Finish : Nickel over Brass

Size : 6.5 x 14

In 1942, Leedy issued the Commander model snare drum as an upgrade to their Reliance model. Like many companies around this era, the integration of self-aligning tension rods was at the forefront of innovation. This was the primary upgrade from the tube lugs on the Reliance models. The lugs feature a beautiful minimalist profile with an exposed open body. The swivel nut floats in place held by the tension rod from above.

Cataloged in the 6.5 x 14 size only, the drum was available with either a mahogany shell (black or white duco finish) or a nickel plated brass shell. This particular drum is in outstanding condition with no modifications. As shown on the same catalog page, Leedy also offered the “Victory” model snare which was an upgrade to the Utility model. The difference between these two, the Commander and Victory, was the strainer assembly that was offered with each.
