1930s Slingerland 'Tone Flange' Model Snare Drum
Finish : White Marine Pearl
Size : 5 x 14
Available for purchase is a 1930s Slingerland Tone Flange model snare drum completely set up ready to play (with the complete tone flange assembly installed), just as Slingerland intended in the 30s! This drum features a tone flange assembly on the batter head which includes a flat profile bearing edge with a banjo ring seated on-top, along with a metal flange that accepts the batter side head. The intention of this design was to illuminate overtones and create a more focus sound that projects volume.
This drum is set up with newer single ply heads, perfectly seated over the tone flange assembly. New tension rods and steel claws are installed on the drum to insure no issues with high tunings (as the original brass clips will crack under any significant tension). There are a couple of cracks around the bottom of the badge-left tube lug that have been address with glue injection and clamped. The drum also had a burn in one of the back panels that was filled with yellow tented color matching filler and buffed to a smooth-to-the-touch finish. That said, the drum is in great playable condition and really illustrates a functional unique 1930s Slingerland snare.
