During WWII metal rationing took the forefront in product design; with efforts to keep any single product below 10% metal materials. Slingerland, like many drum companies at this time took a unique approach to reinventing the design of drums with this rationing in mind. Utilizing original rose wood, Slingerland created the "Rolling Bomber" drums. The rolling bomber snare drum featured an off-set 6-lug pattern in which the hoops, lugs, and strainer parts were made of wood instead of metal.
This particular drum is in beautiful condition with all original hardware and wrap. The Marine Pearl is in great condition with minimal fading and one crack at the inlay in the resonant hoop near the bridge. This is very common for these drums considering how thin the wrap is at this location. The snares are original to the era, however these have also stretched quite a bit. A couple of new washers are installed as spacers for the snares and these can be adjusted along with the height pins in the bottom of the strainer to allow additional or less space between the snares and head. The drum is equipped with calf heads, of which the batter hide has seen significant use. Overall an excellent example of a rare unique drum.
